If you are familiar with the idea of van life, you’ve no doubt seen magazines or blogs full of idyllic photos of a perfectly modern transit van, zero clutter, minimally and perfectly decorated and situated in a gorgeous landscape somewhere in the PNW or along the Atlantic coast. While that lifestyle is attainable, something tells me it isn’t sustainable. At least not on a daily basis. Just like any other photoshoot, things are prepped and hidden away so you can see only the highlights.

Enter Arthemon. We met online, by chance. He was driving through Texas on his way to a bright future in Los Angeles, and I was more than happy to meet up with him at Essex Modern City to capture the more raw, real elements of van life. Don’t get me wrong- he’s not trying to discourage anyone who wants to pursue a life on the road. Quite the opposite! He wants to let everyone know what it’s like so that more of you are better prepared before taking off and hitting the open road.
